Why is higher education abroad important?

Is higher education abroad mandatory for self-development?

Education is a process that basically helps to self-development. When we learn anything it enhances our skills in that particular subject which increases our confidence and we know a confident person can do many things. But higher education abroad is not mandatory at all. It is important to those who want to improve themselves, who have a passion for learning, and who want to give something to society. For them higher education is mandatory. In our country, we don’t have that opportunity where we can learn anything so easily. Here for a very small thing, we need to struggle. That is why if we want to excel in any particular subject then we need to go abroad for higher education and for that English is becoming a mandatory course for us. English is a global language, so when we know this language in a better way, we can prove ourselves everywhere. We can stand anywhere by our merit.

How many people have gone abroad for higher education in our country in recent years? How many want to go for education purposes?

Almost 400,000 lac people go abroad for different purposes. But among them in 2022, at least 49,151 Bangladeshi students went abroad to study in 58 countries, according to the latest UNESCO data. Most want to get citizenship in that country because of financial security, Recognition, Job status, working environment, Company Reputation, Social Security, and Environment. These are very important and for these reasons, people are not interested in returning to Bangladesh.

Among them, how many want to get citizenship in that country? And what is the reason behind it?

Most of the Bangladeshis want citizenship of where he or she lives. Financial reasons are an important issue for non resident Bangladeshis. Because they think what kind of job they get after completing higher education abroad they don’t get the same kind of job or status in Bangladesh, how much salary they may get from abroad, here in Bangladesh that amount of remuneration they don’t get when they return to Bangladesh. Bangladesh couldn’t afford them with the same facilities. For that reason nowadays, we face a great impact on brain drain.

How many think what we learn through higher education is our responsibility to deliver it to society?

A few people think, what they learn through higher studies is their responsibility to deliver it to society. But in our country, we are grooming ourselves by getting very poor facilities. That is why we never feel that we have a lot of responsibility for society. Most of us have a tendency to think about what I did in my life. I did it in my own guts. Here no one contributed to my journey because the process of the whole journey was so tough. They achieved it by doing very hard work and most of them didn’t get any help easily from institutions or anywhere else. So, they think whatever they still do for society is enough. The country can’t claim anything from them. They think what does society do for themselves? Nothing. And behind it, our social, economic, and environmental issues are responsible.

How many people think we want to deliver or share our knowledge, but for the lack of facilities, and student qualities we can’t deliver it to the students?

Many of us think and also have a philanthropic mentality. Still, they think what we learn through higher education can be delivered to the present students. But they are becoming disappointed after a moment. Most of the students can’t receive what they want to deliver. So, what they want to say here in Bangladesh is that they don’t get standard quality students, logistic support, and different academic support. And here they face tremendous bureaucratic problems. What they think for the students or for the society they cannot implement in Bangladesh. That is why they remain silent or take a step back.

Why day by day our student standards are becoming so poor? What are the reasons behind it?

We have different mediums that gradually destroy our education system and we are becoming segregated according to the medium of the education system and our thought processes are becoming so different. At present, when we take a look at our education system we see different mediums. Those are:

  • Bengali Medium
  • English Medium
  • English version
  • Vocational education
  • Madrasa is another very strong medium.

Nowadays can we see class discrimination in the student category?

According to me, class discrimination is increasing at a high rate. For this, our education system is very much responsible. When in a system, you have so many mediums then it would be easy to make people confused. Students’ quality at the primary level is quite the same. How you groom a child that enhances the quality of a student. But for the cause of different mediums, we see different categories of students. Their education, depth of knowledge, understanding capacity, behaviour, enunciation, and in a lot of things we can see variation. And it creates status discrimination among the students. And we can’t deny it. We know a great institution can always produce good quality products even if it is human. When it polishes them they become human resources. But this is not possible in overpopulated developing nations like ours. But we can bring it under a system where each student at least gets a minimum standard education and we can assure them that it is our responsibility as a nation.
